I have noted an interest among Rappahannock residents in preserving our bounty of exceptionally beautiful trees that line our highways and cover our mountain slopes. Do you know of individual trees that are worthy of protective measures?
I propose a county registry of trees that will list specific trees that are of special interest. This would entail a process of identifying, certifying and keeping on record a list of trees that are notable for reasons of aesthetics, unusually large size, unusual species or historical value. The list would be modelled after the National Register of Big Trees and the Virginia Registry of Big Trees. (We might locate some state and national “champions” in the process of developing our own list, but Rappahannock’s registry would not be limted to the largest specimens of each spe
