Not only is there a great deal of crime, said Clark, but police can’t always be there right when their needed.
“A woman may need a police officer there at that moment, not 10 minutes later,” he said.
When a women approaches Clark about purchasing a weapon, he guides them towards small pistols such as a .38 Special or a “Lady” Smith and Wesson.
A shotgun, he said, is cumbersome, used mostly for at-home protection.
“A defense gun isn’t so much to kill, but to stop them in their tracks, to stop them from doing what they’re doing,” said Clark.
He said often women purchase gases such as Mace, but don’t realize they aren’t strong. Also, he said, the stun guns advertised as non-lethal protection aren’t easy to use.
