The Fay house took a year to build, mostly because, according to builder Bettis, the project was a learning experience.
“If we did it again, we could probably knock about three months off the construction time,” he said. * As delivered by Timberpeg, the house was relatively easy to put together, Bettis said. Each post, beam and supporting brace was marked.
“Carey started in one corner and put it together like an erector set,” Fay said.
Timberpeg “pre-engineers” the structure so that in the field the project goes flawlessly. The Fay home, according to Bettis, worked out so well that they ended up not using any of the five extra beams Timberpeg sent in case something was cut wrong.
The cost of construction for the Fay home was $350,000, excluding land. The rule of thumb, according to Fay, for a Timberpeg home is $90 to $100 per square foot, depending on the quality of the interior options, such as appliances and cabinets.
