With 9.34 inches of rain, this past November is only the second wettest November since weather watcher Dennis Wingfield began keeping records 11 years ago.
In November 1985, 14.1 inches of rain fell on Sperryville. Mr. Wingfield said that meteorologists and geographers "figure you need at least five years to establish a foundation that is fairly accurate. You get some wet ones and some dry ones," he added.
Through November, 1992 has already exceeded the average rainfall for the entire year, he said. In the 11 years he has been keeping records at his home outside Sperryville the county has averaged 45. 13 inches of ^precipitation per year. So far this year, he has measured 51.59 inches.
