Pratt returns
from deployment
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Andrew K. Pratt, whose wife, Betty, is the daughter of Martha and George E. Kidwell Jr. of Castleton recently returned aboard the destroyer USS Comte De Grasse, homeported in Norfolk from a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean and Red Sea as part of the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga Battle Group.
The ship operated with aircraft carriers, submarines and amphibious ships as part of a Maritime Action Group and coordinated efforts with warships of the British, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Turkish navies. The destroyer also participated in Maritime Interdiction Force Operations in the Northern Red Sea enforcing United Nations sanctions against Iraq.
The ship’s medical department also provided urgent treatment to two crewmembers from a merchant vessel from the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Pratt visited Gaeta, Naples, Trieste, and Fiumicino, Italy; Villefranche, France; Golcuk, Turkey; and Limassol, Cyprus.
The 1989 graduate of Rappahannock High School joined the Navy in August 1989.
