Timberpeg, a New Hampshirebased company with factories in New Hampshire and North Carolina, offers the homes in either white pine or Douglas fir. The company works with the homeowner’s architect to draft detailed home plans.
Those plans then are sent to one of the company’s four factories where the wood is cut to the specific measurements outlined in the plans. The precut timber is then loaded onto a flatbed and shipped to the construction site.
At the job site, the posts are set and then beams fitted in place. The sections are held together by mortises and tenons fastened by wooden pegs.
The outer frame bears all the weight of the roof and upper stories and frees enterior spaces of loadbaring walls. The result is greater freedom in interior design.
