Two weeks ago, however, the entire family moved into a townhouse in Frederick County, and Dale and Susan Bartles are trying to re-order their disrupted life.
It’s not an easy task. The Barlteses aren’t rich. Dale works for Kraft Foods; Susan is a manager at a tire company in Winchester. They are still paying the mortgage on the house, said Dale Bartles, and that’s in addition to the rent on their new residence.
They’ve also had to replace the clothing and furniture still in their condemned house. Although they’ve gotten help from family and friends and a few local businesses, it’s stilll a huge strain.
“It feels like we’re getting poorer every day,” said Bartles.
