“My approach in working with any kids is to treat them like they’re my own,” he said. “You need to be fair, to be consistent, to listen and to help. Our main goal is to help them to grow, not only to learn, but to be responsible adults. We need not only to instruct them academically, but also to be models for them socially."
Mr. Harrup started at the high school last Thursday, but his official duties started this Monday. For the rest of the week he will work with Larry Carter, who will leave at the end of the week to begin his work as principal of Madison County High School.
Mr. Harrup said he had found a “wonderful, warm, caring atmosphere” at the high school among the staff and at the central office.
