Karen Moore of Flint Hill has been selected to attend The National Young Leaders Conference from Nov. 2-7 in Washington, D.C. *
The National Young Leaders Conference is a unique leadership development program for outstanding high school students who have; demonstrated leaderhip potential and scholastic merit. Karen, a junior at Rappahannock High School, will be among 350 students attending th£ conference from across American,” She is the daughter of Louis and Darlene Moore.
The theme of the National Young Leaders of Tomorrow Meeting the Leaders of Today. Throughout the six-day conference, Karen will inter* act with key leaders and newsmak* ers from the three branches of government, the media and the diplomatic corps.
Highlights of the program in* elude welcoming remarks from a Member of Congress of the floor of the United States House of Repn resentatives, a panel discussion with prominent journalists at the Na* tional Press Club and a private performance by the Capitol Steps, a musical political satire troupe; Scholars will visit foreign embassies and receive policy briefings from senior government officials. Karen may also meet with Sen. Charles S. Robb, Sen. John William Warner and Rep. Frank R. Wolf or designated members of their staffs to discuss important issues facing Flint Hill and the nation.
To complement the special meetings and briefings, Karen will participate in a number of leadership skillbuilding activites. In one activity, a simulation entitled “If I were President,” students role-play the President and member of the Cabinet who must respond to an international crisis in the Balkans.
Culminating the National Young Leaders Conference is the Mock Congress on National Service, in which scholars assume the roles of United States Representatives by* debating, amending and voting on proposed service legislation.
