anything. Look at those soldiers. They are not asiatics, they are Russians like us. They are starting a civil war by attacking us.
“Russia is without law’, without constituion. There is still one valid constitution and that is the constitution of Brezhnev. These people work in the night. They like to work in the dark because that is the best time to do dark things. They will come against us, but we will* not give up. We will be back because workers are behind us.
Leaving the barricaded area I stood next to a shrivelled old lady as a troop of soldiers marched away toward the river. Tears in her eyes, she looked at me mournfully, repeating with hands slightly clasped together, “Before we were all together, we were so close, like on family. Now we are fighting each other.”
The next morning the streets were clear and there was hardly a sign of a disturbance. The front end loaders and street cleaners had erased in the night all signs of the impending choas.
