“They’re unsightly,” he said.
Mr. Morehouse said the work on the water system could not be halted. “It has taken five years” to get the improvements to the system underway, he said. "These guys are doing a responsible job. They cover up their work every day.”
“Could we move the barrels for the weekend?” Mr. Zumwalt asked.
“I don’t think so,” Mayor Morehouse said.
Council member Ray Gooch said the barrels were placed to “establish a new' traffic pattern.” He said there is no sixmonth period for repairs to the water system that wouldn’t interfere with some event in town.
Phyllis Mariott, owner of the Foster-Harris House said, “It seems like the barrels are moving.”
Mr. Miller agreed. Then Mayor Morehouse agreed also, saying the barrels were gradually being moved closer to the white line painted on the road surface marking where the new turn w'ill go.
Ms. Van Dort said the highway department would be prepared to install the curbing in two weeks but was holding off pending a decision on the stub street.
Mr. Miller suggested the council wait and hear from the people about all sides of the intersection at the November meeting.
Evelyn Willis said she thought trucks w'ere having trouble negotiating the turn.
“I’ve not observed that,” Mayor Morehouse said.
