Kindergarten rooms have been -ve£y bright the first month of school !as the children study colors. Kindergarten rooms also look differnt because of their newly formed developmentally based curriculum. The curriculum continues to maintain the high standards of learning .but'.more emphasis is put on the • process of learning. " Teachers and students are involved and excited about their learning - as shown by Kindergarten teacher Marti Cannon when she exuberantly popped to her doorway looking for someone with whom to share a student’s success. Her students were “playing” with toothfpicjss. A girl had spelled her entire nanie using toothpicks. Try it, it’s not as easy as it sounds. Fun? Yes. Learning? Definitely!
•first graders have been seen outside with bags gathering signs of fall to continue their studies on Harvest Time. A class full of Johnny Appleseeds, pots and all, traveled to the nature area in the back of the scliqol and planted apple seeds on Johnny Appleseed Day. Honored guests visited first grade classrooms. Grandparents were invited to >isit their grandchildrens’ classrooms in celebration of Grandparents’ Day. They were entertained with a story that the children read to them and a snack prepared and served by the students. Tecldy Bears were visitors, too. They enjoyed bear activities with their owners. Ted E. Ruskpin took the teacher’s place during story time.
