To the Editor:

The Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) is still very much considering building a high voltage power line and cutting a 100-foot swath through Rappahannock County.

While REC has discussed possible routes form Sperryville to the Rixley Substation outside Culpeper, no definitive route has been decided upon, therefore, no property owner in that corridor, or the rest of the county, should feel confidant that they will not be affected by the power line. In fact, all Rappahannock residents lose if the power line is built.

It is critical that residents of Rappahannock County inform REC, the State Corporation Commission (which will have the ultimate say over whether there is a need for the line), and the Board of Supervisors (who, thankfully oppose the line) of their opposition to this power line.

Please write the following individuals and let them know:

• that you strongly oppose the power line;

• that there are alternatives to building the new line through Rappahannock County; and

• that you resent that Rappahannock residents will have to suffer the power line’s ill effects and get no benefits from the new line so that Culpeper residents can benefit from the line.
