Twelve teams competed at the Virginia Tech Invitational last Saturday, and Coach David van de Graaff is very pleased with his team’s results. Rappahannock placed eighth out of twelve teams. Jason Waters finished tenth in the men’s division with a time of 17:41. Mike Grimsley was 16th at 17:58, Mark Jenkins 29th at 18:37, Mike Wolfe 73rd at 21:08, and Nathan Flinchum 89th at 24:01. In the womens’ division, Holly Gangel was 28th at 23:40 and Camilla Josephson 42nd at 26:20.
The district meet was to be held Wednesday in Strasburg. Out of the nine teams competing in the district meet, the top 15 boys, top 15 girls and top four teams will go on to the regional meet, which will be held at Piedmont Community College in Charlottesville on October 27.
19 girls’ basketball Coach Leake believes that our varsity Lady Panthers should have w'on their game against Page County on October 12. Following a successful first half, in which Rappahannock scored 15 points to Page’s nine points, the lady Panthers apparently became too overconfident and scored only one point to Page’s 16 points in the third quarter. Due mostly to missed shots, our team fell to the Page team for a final score of 44-32. Rappahannock’s star player was Leah Marlett, w'ho scored 12 points and completed eight rebounds.
The junior varsity team also lost.
The next home varsity game will be played on Thursday, October 21 versus StonewTall Jackson.
