To the Editor:
George Allen, as Governor, will fight for legislation to reduce lenient parole for prisoners. He will also support legislation to allow juries to be informed of a convicted felon’s previous record before sentencing.
Allen will work to restore integrity by prohibiting the state from granting government contracts to business in which legislators or their immediate family members have a financial interest.
Allen has a proven record. He was recognized by the National Taxpayer’s Union as the “5th (among 439) most Fiscally Repsonsible Member” of the entire 102nd Congress.
Allen was awarded the “Golden Bulldog Award” from the Watchdogs of the Treasury for his “efforts to eliminate wate, reduce the deficit, and contain unnecessary government spending.”
Allen was also presented with the “Guardian of Small Business” award from the National Federation of Independent Business.
For lieutenant governor, Mike Farris is a Constitutional lawyer dedicated to the protection of the rights of individuals. He won a unanimous victory in the U.S. Supreme Court which makes educational choice constitutionally possible. He will fight to implement choice for all parents in Virginia.
Farris believes tax credits would allow parents to economic ability to choose a different public school, private school, or home school. He believes that competition would be good for the school children.
Farris will w ork to improve education. Virginia ranks 16th in spending for education but only 38th in SAT scores. He w'ants to eliminate waste, like the hiring of 14,783 new staffers for 16,000 additional students between 1988 and 1990; less than 3,000 w ere teachers.
Farris has shown fiscal responsibility by running a debt-free campaign. He will work to cut taxes, reduce spending, eliminate government debt, and raise the personal exemption if Virginia to match the federal level. This would mean a family of four could earn $9,200 per year tax-free (beyond the standard deducation), versus the current $3,200. .
Jay Katzen can best represent the 31st District (Rappahannock, Fauquier, Warren). Katzen will work hard for families and communities. He also has a proven record on global issues while working writh the State Department, United Nations and several U.S. Embassies.
Katzen is challenging Jerry Wood for the 31st seat. According to the Virginia Family Council Report Card for Virginia Legislators, Jerry Wood’s pro-family grade was only 13 percent (A grade of 100 means legislator voted pro-family 100 percent of time).
It’s time to put Republicans in control of the state house — vote Republican Nov. 2!
