The speaker for the November program, a primary “technical resource” for this library application, is Jim Small, a computer programmer for Blueridge Technologies in Flint hill who will describe and demonstrate the library’s new computerized cataloguing system.
He will be supported by the library staff who have been working for months to transfer the card file to the electronic “public access” inventory and will help demostrate the computer hardware with visual display. There will be time for questions and a discussion period prior to the usual refreshments. So come to the library and “Meet the Computer” at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5. As alwasy this unique experience is free to those attending.
The December program, set for the second Friday, the 10th, due to other community programs, is both educational and entertaining. The theme is “Christmas the World Over.”
A group of foreign exchange students will describe how the festive season is celebrated in their native lands, revealing both traditional differences and similarities.
The January program will feature Bruce Sloane who, prior to his recent tenure as editor of the Rappahannock Neu's wrote about the Luray Caverns. The subject will be “Spelunking,” — exploring and studying the nature and lore of caves.
