“What is council’s pleasure?” Mayor Morehouse asked. “Should we accelerate putting in improvements?”
Member Mark Bailey said he did not like the stop signs but agreed there is a speeding problem. “I feel it is a law enforcement problem,” he said.
Mayor Morehouse made a motion to ask VDOT to go ahead and install the improvements except for the stub street. The motion passed with Morehouse, Mr. Gooch, Brad Fisher and Janice Moffett voting for the motion. Mr. Miller voted against it, and Mr. Bailey abstained.
Mr. Fisher said the work on the water system will not be a problem for the Colonial Christmas weekend, since the company will be finished installing the lines in the center of town and working on the lateral streets by then.
Earlier the council approved an amendment to the special use permit for Spring Mountain School. All current restrictions will continue but the school will be allowed to use more rooms within the building and to take up to 60 students.
The council met in executive session with attorney Frank Reynolds to discuss pending and potential litigation and the acquisition of real property. No action was taken.
