My childhood travels of the day invariably took me by the old mill to watch the bottling process and to sample the tasty strawberry Nehi drink. I was amazed to discover later that the main ingredient was water.
The operator of the grist mill was a white-haired gentleman nick“Are
you going to
gather the bad
apples, when you
have an absolute
opportunity to
gather good ones?”

I named “Coly.” Quite capable in his profession, he kept the stones honed to perfection. Many farmers brought their grain to the mill to be ground for their use. The pond in the winter months furnished enough ice for the family to use during the summer. This mill continued in operation until the 30s.
Near the large house where J.A. lived was his own personal electric power plant. This furnished power to three houses he owned and one other building. “Delco Power” was a very up-to-date electric source with its rows and rows of batteries and an alcohol/kerosene powered generator.
