He said Ms. Clute is interested in jobs, crime, education and tobacco. On jobs, he said, she would work to make sure Virginia gets a “good portion of military conversion funds.” He said they should be used to put Virginia in the forefront of the environmental technology field.
He said Ms. Clute favors full funding for Head Start and increases in federal funding for education especially for urban and rural schools. He said she feels the society “needs to address the roots of crime, the lack of moral guidance.” These are made worse when “religious and political leaders are involved in immoral activity,” he said.
He said Ms. Clute fovors reforming welfare in a way that will encourage families to stay together while they work their way out of poverty. He said Ms. Clute favors an increase in the cigarette tax with funds from the tax earmarked to enable tobacco workers and farmers to retrain for more productive work.
