Doug Baumgardner spoke on behalf of State Sen. Virgil Goode. Mr. Baumgardner noted that Sen. Goode is from the southwest part of the state, which has given Virginia many leaders.
He said that in the past he has supported Sen. Robb in his bids for' election as lieutenant governor, governor and for his first term in the U.S. Senate.
“We Democrats can do what we are elected to do when we are able to articulate a vision for the future, when we can talk about jobs, education and the environment,” Mr. Baumgardner said. “We cannot do that when we are hindered by the past, when forced by circumstances, whether justifiable or not, to constantly respond to allegations about the past. We lose and we fail in our mission. I have come to the conclusion he (Robb) cannot focus on the isi sues that matter for the Democratic Party,” Mr. Baumgardner said. i
