By CINDY MAHAN Rappahannock New* Staff Writer At last Wednesday’s athletic banquet, Leah Marlett received the Sportsmanship Award, the one which RCHS coaches consider the most prestigious. The award was presented by the 1980 recipient of ; the Sportsmanship Award, Gary ' Leake. Leah will be attending Shep’ herd College with a partial athletic 'scholarship. ^ Mike Grimsley accepted the Rappahannock News Athletic Award, •presented by Barbara Wayland, '.‘ General Manager of the Rappahan,jnockNews. i Marsha Freeman. received the 3 RCHS Best Athlete Award, pre•* sented by Athletic Director Kurt l Harrup. n, J.C. Welch earned the Neil Burke Memorial Award, which was awarded to the student athlete who ‘‘ “went that extra mile” in the sport of “ their choice. Jonathan Watson, a graduate of RCHS, presented • the award in memory of Neil Burke, a 1987 RCHS graduate who was a .‘member .of the cross country and r.track teams, who died in an accident.
