In Virginia, on June 14 in a Democratic Primary, every registered voter has the opportunity to go to their regular voting place to elect the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate.
Sylvia Clute is the only candidate in either party who supports smokefree environments in public places and in the workplace as a preventive health care measure. She is also the only candidate in either party who supports an increase in the federal tobacco excise tax if some of the money is slated to help tobacco farmers and workers make the-transition to crops and products with a brighter future.
Charles Robb voted to block the airline ban on smoking. Robb was thanked by the tobacco industry in a newspaper ad on March 11, 1994. Robb also opposed strengthening the Clean Air Act which would have helped us breathe easier outdoors. Nancy Spannaus, a Lyndon Larouche supporter, opposes smokefree environments and a tobacco tax, taking her campaign into the Philip Morris plant itself.
