Nancy Spannaus and representatives of State Sen. Virgil H. Goode jr., U.S. Sen. Charles S. Robb and Richmond Attorney Sylvia L. Clute addressed a small gathering of Democrats at the Theatre in Washington last Thursday night. . ,
The four are vying for the Democratic Party nomination for the U.S. Senate seat. The nominee will be chosen in a primary election next Tuesday.
Incumbent Sen. Robb was represented by Eve Wilson, chairman of the 10th Congressional District Cemocratic Committee. She said as governor Sen. Robb “raised the level of educational standards.” She said he is also responsible for many new people coming into the Democratic Party.
She noted that there are long lists of educators and legislators supporting Sen. Robb for another term. ' He is also supported by the Sierra Club, she noted.
