It appears that Rappahannock County High School will have two valedictorians this year.
Seniors Shannon Eastham and Jessica Arnold seem headed for a tie, both with grade point averages of 4.08.
If that indeed happens, Derek Deczewitz with a 3.% will be salutatorian. If the tie is broken, he will merely be the student with the third highest grade point average in the class.
None of them was wasting any time getting sentimental about leaving high school last week. All three were looking forward to getting out and being on their own in college.
Shannon and Jessica are heading for the University of Virginia. Derek is off to Virginia Tech. Shannon plans to go on to med school and will probably specialize in biology. Derek said he plans to major in biology and computer science, and Jessica said she is undecided but is considering English and writing.
They have been active members of the class of 1995. Shannon has been a cheerleader and volleyball player. She has been treasurer and secretary of the environmental club and treasurer of the SCA. Jessica was active in basketball, volleyball and track. She was president of the SCA.
Derek was active in drama and the local chapter of Technology Students of America. All three are members of the National Honor Society.
