Water Association which serves small water and sewer authorities. That group has agreed to show local WSA members and employees how to do smoke tests to determine if there are leaks in the system or incorrect plumbing. The smoke tests will be performed on all the tanks in the system during July.
Member Charles K. “Pete” Estes brought a report to last Thursday’s meeting on a recent surge in the inflow into the plant during a storm on May 10. He said that the amount peaks very quickly and just as quickly drops back to normal once the rain stops. The entire period of the surge can be as short as a half hour, he said, but in that half hour the rate can go from 17,000 gallons per day, to 80,000 and back to 17,000.
If the WSA can correct the problems that cause this, they hope to save the cost of putting in the extra tank, which would divert waste water during such a surge to be processed once the level in the system drops back to normal.
