At Gadsby’s Tavern, built circa 1770, a center for political, business and social life in early Alexandria, luncheon was served.

A tour through Early Alexandria’s “grandest” house and gardens, Carlyle House, which was built in 1752-3, followed. Having fallen into disrepair, it was purchased in 1970 by the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority, painstakingly restored, and opened to the public in time for the Bicentennial.
