Last December a writer for The New YorleiTimes launched confidently into an article about changing attitudes toward teen-age pregnancies. She interviewed a family in Wisconsin.
“The father of six, Schuldt’s daughter April was elected homecoming queen at her high school last year when she was five months pregnant.”
Oops! The feature writer stumbled and took a pratfall. She had tripped on a dangling phrase. Obviously Schuldt’s daughter was not “the father of six,” but that’s the way the sentence reads.
