Regarding Christopher Graves’ story last week on the new Boy Scout Troop 200, it was my little black Scottie, named Scudder, whom the troop found in the vicinity of Big Bastard Mountain. Jimmy Joback, the scoutmaster, told me that when the boys first spied Scudder running in the woods towards them they thought he was a lost bear cub.
At first glance, Scudder looks like a bear cub because he is totally black and furry. The boys weren’t too far off, however, since Scudder is also called “Rappahannock Bear.”
Anyone who has ever lost a pet knows the terrible feelings one experiences. 1 was more than happy to thank Troop 200 for finding Scudder — good luck to the troop and happy trails.
