In Circuit Court last Thursday, Mack Russell Southerland. 19, of Culpeper, was sentenced to 12 months in jail with 10 months suspended.

In a plea agreement with the Commonwealth, Mr. Southerland pleaded guilty to a charge of assault and battery, amended down from attempted malicious wounding on Ronnie Kennedy during an incident which took place at the Sperrvville Emporium parking lot last year.

Mr. Southerland was directed to pay restitution of $888.6! to Werner Fleischer (or State Farm Insurance) for damage down to a car which Mr Southerland sideswiped with his car.

Mr Southerland will also be on 12 months of unsupervised probation upon his release from jail, and pay the costs of prosecution within six months of his release.

Roger L. Baumgardner, 36, of Walkersville, Maryland, was also on the docket for a trial Thursday, but instead decided to enter into a plea agreement. He was originally indicted
