Monday night’s public hearing on the county budget and tax rates brought out about 40 people and 40 firmly held opinions, mostly on how the county's volunteer fire departments should be funded
. Volunteers supported a tire levy dedicated to funding for the departments. A four-cent tire levs on the fair market value of real estate was included as.one of the taxes being considered. Another was a 20 cent increase in the personal property tax rate, raising ,it from S2.90 to S3.10. with that increase designated as a lire lev y. I he other proposed tax was an increase in the real estate tax rate from 69 cents to 73 cents. 1 hat increase, like the rest of the real estate tax, would be based in part on landuse values.
