Within one hour of pleading guilty to malicious wounding last Thursday morning, Roy Wayne Sisk escaped while being led to jail.
Sheriff John Henry Woodward was escorting Mr. Sisk, 32, of Sperryville, from the courthouse to the jail. When they reached the steps to the jail, Mr. Sisk turned to the sheriff, told him he wanted to tell his kids goodbye, and took off in the direction of the courthouse. He was not wearing handcuffs, as Sheriff Woodward said he had not had any problems with Mr. Sisk in the past.
Mr. Sisk then took off in the direction of Main Street, and was seen hightailing it over a fence in Ed and Martha Barton’s yard. That was the last he was seen by anyone from the Sheriff’s Office until Friday evening.
A massive manhunt ensued, using the services of several members of the Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office, a state police helicopter, other state police including one with a Rottweiler, and Investigator Rick MacWelch of the Fauquier. County
