The issue of charging for reserved sewer rights came up again at last week’s meeting of the Water and Sewer Authority.
The owner of a potential Sperryville business had requested reserved sewer rights for a shop in a house. Declaring that the plant was not at capacity, the WSA reserved three EDUs (equivalent to a dwelling unit) for six months. That period ran out in October. Since then the WSA adopted a policy of charging at half the normal rate to continue to reserve rights. At last month’s meeting secretary Richard Smith said the potential owners wanted to begin paying at half the regular rate to continue to reserve sewer capacity. Mr. Smith asked treasurer Carson Johnson to begin charging them.
