“Guy gifts,” they can be a mystery to the fairer sex. There are some men who would love to receive a blender, to be sure, but many ’90s men still look for tools and sporting goods and other traditional male accoutrements. Here’s a start on making a dent in that list for “the guys.”
Recently shown at the 50th anniversary National Hardware Show were:
• A bird feeder that keeps squirrels away by using electricity.
• A new line of adhesives from 3M to help repair everyday plastic and vinyl items such as toys, vacuum hoses, laundry baskets, pool toys and air mattresses.
• A video scanner to locate studs and conduit pipes.
• For cars, security products such as hood and trunk locks, a steering wheel cover to protect against air bag theft and a blind spot monitor for the rear bumper.
For Civil War buffs, three Civil War Battlefield Commemorative Coins have been issued by the U.S. Mint as part of a battlefield preservation program. The coins are designed by world-renowned Civil War artist and illustrator Don Troiani, acclaimed for his historically accurate renditions of Civil War scenes. A portion of the sale price of each coin will be devoted to the Civil War Trust.
While each of these three coins is available for individual purchase, they are also packaged in a collector set — an historically faithful reproduction of the Union Box photo case carried by many Civil War soldiers.
