Collectibles

Move over baseball, America’s favorite pastime could be collecting collectibles. According to the Collectibles and Platemakers Guild, more than 11 million American households, or 11 percent of the country, identify themselves as people who accumulate collectibles.

According to the Guild, an industry trade organization, some of the most prevalent collectibles are figurines and one of the world’s most popular is the Precious Moments Collection.

The Precious Moments Collection, based on artist Sam Butcher’s drawings of teardrop-eyed children bearing inspirational messages, was introduced in 1979. Since its debut, more than 1,000 figurines have been unveiled and the collection has expanded to include many more figurines as well as plates, bells, ornaments, photo frames, musicals and home decor accessories. In addition, the Precious Moments Collection boasts the world’s largest collectors’ club of its kind with 400 local club chapters and nearly 500,000 members.
