While most games are age-graded for older children, a new Fisher-Price’s line is designed especially for preschoolers.
One of the new games is Hold the Phone, an interactive collecting game. After spreading 16 picture discs out on a table, the players join hands with each other and Tommy the Talking Telephone. When the “phone” rings, Tommy uses silly sound effects to tell children which disc to find. For instance, Tommy might say “find the . . . meow.”
Stacking and construction toys challenge kids’ creativity and imagination as they arrange and rearrange the pieces in dozens of different ways.
The LEGO toy company has recently introduced the new DUPLO baby line, designed for children between 6 months and 24 months.
The stacking sets for babies feature a bumblebee and lady bug that make rattling sounds, a car, and colorful stacking blocks with rounded edges. One set also includes an elephant and a mirror block. Another has a rock-and-spin piece. A rattling chicken joins the bumblebee and lady bug.
In addition, the new FreeStyle freeform building sets are for ages 3 and older. They come with lots of brightly colored LEGO bricks, along with special pieces to spark a child’s imagination. Some sets include wheels, propellers, doors and windows. One even has flowers.
