three men were indicted in Rappahannock Circuit Court on Nov. 13.
Scott Randolph Stewart, 33, of Lithia, Georgia, was indicted on two counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor girl, and two counts of aggravated sexual battery on a minor girl.
The victim was just five years old when two of the alleged crimes took place between Feb. 1 and April 13, 1988, and six years old when the other two allegedly took place between April 13 and June 30, 1988. Mr. Stewart was an employee of the victim’s mother.
Milton Conway Hudson, 31, of Washington, was indicted for possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine); possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine); possession of a concealed weapon (a .22 caliber pistol); and possession of marijuana.
Samuel D. Berry, 41, of Culpeper, was indicted for fraud. A capias remains outstanding for Mr. Berry.
In a plea agreement with the Commonwealth, Jerome John Gray, 24, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, had a charge of grand larceny reduced to petit larceny because he paid restitution of $1,543.70 on time. Mr. Gray entered an Alford plea, which means that he claimed he was not guilty, but felt that there was enough evidence that a jury would find him guilty.
Going along with the plea agreement, Judge W. Shore Robertson sentenced Mr. Gray to 12 months in jail, with six months suspended, and Mr. Gray may be transferred to another jail facility. Mr. Gray must also pay the costs of prosecution, be on supervised probation for two years, and must do 40 hours of community service after he is released from jail. Judge Robertson told Mr. Gray, “1 hope that whatever brought you here will not occur again in your life.”
