Superintendent David Gangel on developing a working relationship with the Sheriffs Office. Karla Miller asked to discuss that with the board, but Dr. Gangel said her discussion would have to come in executive session since it involved the privacy of a student. Mrs. Miller left angry.
The board approved a project presented by Nancy Gallegos of providing community service by organizing volunteer high schoolers to work with elementary students during the school day.
They also approved a request by Rosa Crocker to send out a fund raising letter to compiunity members soliciting contributions to fund special assemblies at both schools and a fund raising letter to be sent out by elementary principal Raye Tupper asking for contributions to purchase computer software.
Dr. Gangel reported that after the sewer lagoon improvement project is finished, he expects to have about S84.000 left over from the bonds sold for the elementary school addition. He said the only bid for improvements to the track came in at $76,340 and that bid was rejected.
Instead, Dr. Gangel recommended the board work with an architect to break the track project down into parts and see what can be done for the track and soccer field using bond monies and perhaps assistance from the Athletic Boosters. Part of the project called for conduit to be put in under the field and track for lights for the field. The board seemed interested in seeing if that much could be done and also install lighting for the student parking lot.
