Rappahannock County Republicans gathered at the County Courthouse on Monday, March 18, for their annual Mass Meeting.
Officers elected for two year terms are Walter Longyear, Chairman; Robert Darby, Vice Chairman; and Hugh Chrisman, Treasurer.
Del. Jay Katzen spoke at the meeting about the recent session of the General Assembly. He emphasized the importance of legislation the legislature passed to address the growing problem of juvenile crime. &
“Juveniles charged with serious crimes such as murder and rape will be tried as adults and, if convicted, sent to prison. Juveniles convicted of some less serious crimes' will be sent to boot camp. There are ra^ny steps which need to be taken to stop juvenile crime. But there is strong recognition that these steps are positive ways of protecting law-abiding citizens and getting juvenile crime under Control,” Del. Katzen stated.
He also spoke of the success in increasing state funding for Rappahannock County’s public schools, and reforms in domestic violence laws.
Also speaking at the meeting were representatives of the U.S. Senate campaigns of Sen. John Warner and former chairman of the Congressional Budget Office James Miller.
