Looking beyond traditional public funding for research and economic development and beyond the more limited goals of any single trade group, the horse industry sought the 1993 creation of the Virginia Horse Industry Advisory Board.
The board was created by legislation and industry-approved referendum. Afmed with funds collected through a $1.50 fee assessed on each test for equine infectious anemia, the board is aggressively promoting the economic development of this most traditional agricultural business.
