A comparison among teachers’ salaries in Rappahannock County, the state as a whole and the five surrounding counties shows that Rappahannock generally lags behind the state but is ahead of the average of surrounding counties except at the top of the scale.
More specificaly, using teachers’ salaries for the current year, Rappahannock with salaries for a teacher with a bachelor’s degree ranging from $23,063 to $35,802, ranks behind Culpeper and Fauquier counties throughout the pay scale but , is ahead of Page, Madison and Warren counties for starting salaries and salaries after 10 years.
At 20 years of experience Madison County salaries surpass Rappahannock, but Madison County teacher salaries top out at 20 years and don’t continue to increase.
At the top of the scale Rappahannock is ahead of the Madison County teacher salary but behind Warren County, as well as Culpeper and Fauquier counties.
The pay scale fo^ teachers with bachelor’s degrees in Fauquier County, which is generally highest of the sixcounty area, range from $24,500 to $42,783. The pay scale in Page County, which is generally lowest in the six-county area ranges from $21,935 to $34,525.
