The brake system is the most important safety feature of any passenger vehicle. It is critical that proper procedures and preventive maintenance be performed regularly to avoid not only costly, but in some cases, life-threatening system failure.
It is the responsibility of the technician to make sure that the results of a brake inspection are fully explained to and understood by the consumer before any service is performed. The condition of the brake system and components will indicate what service or part replacement may be required or suggested.
One problem is that many drivers don’t know the warning signs of a worn of damaged brake system, so they do not seek help. Also, if they do have their brakes inspected, they are unsure about the recommended repair procedures.
Here are some common warning signs and some guidelines to follow when considering brake service.
