Following are three tips to help your mechanic avoid the uncomfortable task of rummaging through possessions stored in your car. Even if he doesn’t mind, the effort costs him time and money.
Glove compartment —: Technicians must often get into this compartment to “pop the trunk,” find the lug nut key to remove a wheel, or to retrieve the owner’s manual.
Trunk — Checking the spare tire, repairing speaker components and fixing (or unlocking) the gas door requires entering the trunk. Stow only essentials.
Interior — Glance around the front and back seats and remove any items of monetary or personal value. Whether it’s a car phone, a set of CDs or your bank deposit slip, your technician would rather it not be there.
