Timet Ntwipapcn Stiff Writer r Logging and forest destruction are synonymous in the minds of many, but a pair of area residents is working tojchange that perception. ‘ Chris Bird, of Horseshoe Hollow Farm near Little Washington, and Redmond Manierre, proprietor of Landmark Logworks in The Plains, have rejected the machine-powered method of removing trees from the fojtfcst, in favor of a less destructive, miye peaceful approach. ^Although heavy equipment can pull out more logs quickly, for a large lump sum payment to the landowner, this- two warned about the destruction th^y, often cause. ^“While the customary heavyhanded devastation of the woodland may pull in maximum money in the shprt term, it damages the areas so bajdly that they require decades to recover,” Mr. Manierre said.
