At the Board of Supervisors meeting on March 3, it was reported by County Administrator John McCarthy that so far little has been done to take care of the problem by Mr. Kitchen.
In addition, there was a foreclosure sale on the property which did not go forward and after that Mr. Kitchen filed for bankruptcy. He has since moved off the property. The county will go forward with the case if necessary in order to get the site cleaned up.
County Attorney Peter Luke said he feels the zoning ordinance should be updated to include stiffer penalties for illegal dumping. Zoning violations can be dealt with more swiftly than civil cases but the current penalties are not sufficient to deter illegal dumping.
Attempts to contact Mr. Wright by telephone on Tuesday for his comments were unsuccessful.
