Mr. Roach said that Mike Brown came from B&B Service Center in Sperryville with a tow truck and they were able to lift the tractor off Mr. Taylor with the tow truck. They had also called for extrication equipment from Sperryville and Amissville fire departments, and Sperryville rescue was also on the scene.
Because the hill was so steep it would have been difficult to get the trucks up to where Mr. Taylor was.
Deputy Chris Williams of the Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office, who was one of the first on the scene, said that Mr. Taylor told him the clutch went out on the tractor and he had tried to stop the tractor by running it into a bank.
In a telephone conversation with Mr. Taylor on Tuesday, he said that the transmission went out on his tractor and that withhi a second the tractor was rolling.
