Adults win because they learn how to establish healthy controls without resorting to anger, threats, nagging, or exhausting power struggles.

Parents need to establish good relationships built on love and trust with their children. It is so easy to get angry and frustrated when we see children making unwise choices. It seems natural to take over when a child seems overwhelmed with a task. When we follow our natural instincts to “rant, rave, and rescue”, we teach the child that making unwise choices make us angry and that we will then take over and solve the problem (an underlying message that they are not capable of making wise choices or coping with their problems.)

If you would like to learn more about the “Love and Logic” principals, consider taking the next class series scheduled for March 12, March 19, March 26, April 2, April 9, and April 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Culpeper Old Board of Supervisor’s Meeting Room, 135 West Cameron Street.
