Environment: An unprecedented amount of funding — over 15 million — has been appropriated for revitalizing the Chesapeake Bay and its and other watersheds, including nutrient reduction improvements for point source facilities in the Potomac and Shenandoah River basins. Each of our decisions regarding the use of your hard-earned tax dollars was a difficult one, and the prioritization which we reached was approved in the House, with my assent, by a vote of 99-1. 1 was pleased that a budget amendment which I patroned, for flood hazard mitigation, received $620,000. This money will assist localities to leverage your tax dollars at the Federal level.
Additionally: State employees will receive a four percent salary increase; 105 State troopers will be added, as well as new teachers in juvenile correctional centers, funding was increased significantly in the area of Health and human Resources, including assistance for welfare reform and to those who are mentally disabled.
