It is said if February goes out like a lion....well, you know the rest of the saying. But it went out like a lamb and thus March came in rather mild although there was an overcast sky.

Spontaneity captures the soul and with a phone call to my friend Sally, we were off on Friday discovering again. For a couple of years now we’ve been locating, documenting and photographing family cemeteries throughout Rappahannock. Especially in the areas of Old Hollow, Gid Brown Hollow, Racer Hollow, Harris Hollow and many with Shenandoah Park. We admit to the verbal assistance in many searches but little or no assistance in the actual finds and can not even estimate the mileage we’ve logged. Sometimes we’ve logged. Sometimes we’ve had to make several attempts locating rudely marked graves. Perseverance has paid off. Our albums bulged with the weightiness of our collection.

Our finds have been exciting and as ever add to our knowledge and understanding of who had lived (and died) in these various local areas, as well as an appreciation that they’ve left something tangible as evidence of their existence. It is not a job which we’re paid for, nor is it a duty demanded of us, but a sense of preserving some of the history of our forefathers
