attention, viewed from a distance, surprisingly, they can glow. In this day of often giant canvases and garish colors it is somewhat astonishing to find these intimate and unassuming works.
I felt as if I were looking at the paintings of Albert Pinkham Ryder, whose impasto technique and historical, mythological subjects were entirely different from Mr. Bussells’. I think it is Bussells’ use of color, light and suggestiveness that brought Ryder to mind. The show will remain for all of March.
