March has arrived and we are reminded of St. Patrick’s Day and the menu customs that are associated with the day. One immediately thinks of jabbage and potatoes. We also know that March is National Nutrition Month. This week we will look at various cabbage facts and recipes and next week focus on potatoes.

Always choose cabbage with a firm, compact head with fresh outer leaves which are a light to medium green, without yellowing or decollation.

Cabbage can be stored in the refrigerator, wrapped in plastic wrap tor about a week.

Cabbage can be a traditional side Jish. or it can be the main meal. Cabbage is available year-round. The varieties of green cabbage you will find most often are the Domestic, which is an early to mid-season crop, and the Danish, which is available July through .March.
